Burot Beach, Calatagan Batangas

Burot Beach, Calatagan Batangas trip had been so great! It was an epic long weekend in Calatagan and somehow a discovery for me. I just spontaneously found this hidden beach in Calatagan because of my high school friend’s post in facebook where they’d just recently went to; I find the place beautiful after Googling it. Reading random blogs gained me the Idea of a not yet develop paradise and so it was a perfect place for our TPAD (Tourism Planning and Development Research) so that was actually the purpose of my long weekend along with leisure.

Batangas is a great place to quickly escape on chaotic scenes of manila with just 3-4 hours of drive. It is best known for wonderful white sand beaches and developed resorts nonetheless nobody knows where burot is? Caltagan is a small municipality in batangas whereas Elizalde Beach in Brgy IV or Barangay Burot which is named after the Burot beach is located.

We left manila around 8AM and went to McDonald’s Tagaytay to have breakfast before headeding straight to Calatagan. It was 10AM when we arrived in Calatagan, we first visit the police station where tourist desk is located, to ask information regarding our research but since it was holiday the person we suppose to talk was not around, That time it was too early to take our lunch so we decided to stroll around and visit the church since it was Sunday. We then decided to have a lunch at the nearest carinderia which offers good food in cheap price! 85php for two persons was great deal right? We also check out the  market place near the bus station to buy essential stuff we will need for our overnight camping.

In my opinion, Calatagan is a not-so-develop town at the heart of a community with only a simple way of living. In Calatagan, you will never find a typical convenient store like 7 11 or Ministop and other good establishment there, so you definitely need to buy things ahead because the chances of finding things are few although there’s a small grocery store and a not so packed market nearby.

Directions on getting to the beach made easy with the friendly Batangueños along the way.

As I have said the place is never develop. Expect a rough road in getting there, there is no electricity, no descent toilet and shower room but lucky enough for having at least a water supply, even a good cottage failed but there’s a table that could be rented and tent for 300. The entrance fee is 60php and 120php for an overnight stay. There’s also security guard in the entrance and a caretaker just strolling around.

After setting up the camping tent, we changed to swim wear and then took island hopping for only 35php, I was surprised with the cheap price however when I get there It wasn’t really island hopping you might be having in mind. For 35php you’ll get the chance to visit the white sand island near burot just 5-10mins boat ride. It was high tide when we get there so we didn’t actually saw the island itself but we were in fact standing in the island with knee deep water. It was weird; it feels like just standing in the middle of the sea.

We encounter a group of local youngster who were happily swimming and playing with the starfish, we randomly talk to them and acquainted ourselves. They were actually just living near and they do fishing for a living and so on. It was really nice to have met them. My friend tim enjoyed playing and swimming along with them while we were playing with the starfish. We only stayed there for 15-20 minutes then headed back to Burot. We requested the bangkero to please drop us off on the left most side of the beach, we continued swimming and playing with the sand, and of course took random pictures.

Unluckily, the weather wasn’t good. Strong wind and rain drops were slowly pouring when we decided to go back to the tent. 3PM was epically disturbing like a typhoon just arrived and ruined our tents; we were shattering then hurriedly pull off our tents, I was just sitting in the table and feels really cold and freezing as we were still wearing swimsuit that time. We hide ourselves on Nipa hut while waiting for the rain to stop apparently, the typhoon ruined our day. We felt hopeless and unsafe that moment so we decided to pack everything, the boys fixed our tents while we swiftly took shower and get dress.

We should have made more experience if only the typhoon didn’t ruin the day. We missed trying to sleep on a tent, bonfire and more of everything we planned. We felt really sad but that’s just how things gone and we’re powerless about it. We looked for a lounge, the first stop was fully booked, second was sizzling hot as with poor ventilation and finally the third stop “French Inn” was better. We’re all down, we’ve fixed things, took simple dinner and ended the night chilling out while talking and laughing into random things.

Thank God we we're all safe after all. It was the most memorable out of town I had.
Our Trip budget is only 1000-1500php including transportation, food, entrance, boat ride and accomodation. For more Info/queries about Burot Beach you may contact the caretaker (#09156028907)
